East Quartzite Range
The Quartzite Ranges are two rows of nunataks, projecting from the polar plateau ice.
Here is the West Quartzite Range, viewed northwest from Mt. Hayton.
Mt. Hayton lies in the East Quartzite Range.
Prominent at left is Gothic Peak.
To the right is cloud-wreathed Cornerstone, a day's march away.
Left: From Mt. Hayton, northeast towards the Millen Range.
Center: Mt. Hayton summit, with the West Quartzite Range beyond.
Right: North slope of Mt. Hayton. 18 December. Camp IV.
On Cornerstone Peak,
northern limit of Gerald's team's journey.
Left: Gerald climbs.
Right: Frank surveys.
Geologist Evan found ancient water-worn quartz pebbles.
Gerald found a black lichen with 3-mm-long leaves.
